Today’s Rap music samples the hooks of hit songs while talking over the top of them. The thought of LZ being sued because they used a chord or two that other songs have used, is absurd.
This is the correct outcome. Both Stairway and Spirit sound similar – if you have never listened to classical guitar. (Not common at all in rock, which is mostly blues-based.) If you have, then you know that both Jimmy Page and Randy California were copying a playing style that has been in the public domain for hundreds of years.

But they carefully pay for every sample, or they get sued for unauthorized use….
I’m glad the Supreme Court decided not to spend their time deliberating this. There’s more pressing issues, obviously.

Yea, I just listened to Taurus,,,,the similarity is specious, at best. Good ruling by not taking the case.
