Chloe x Halle performed a stripped-down version of their hit single “Forgive Me” on Variety’s “Power of Young Hollywood” special presented with Facebook. The sisters delivered from their backyard that had been transformed into a forest-like stage.
Before their performance, Chloe and Halle Bailey shared a word with viewers about the importance of their artistry.
“Women are incredibly powerful, and even though the world tends to underestimate us, we all know our worth,” said Chloe. “I think it’s really special how two young Black girls — my sister and I — can create something from nothing, especially in a male-dominated industry. A lot of the songwriters are men, a lot of the producers are men, a lot of the engineers are men, but it’s really fun taking that narrative and completely screwing it up and being like, ‘Hey, we can do it all, as well.'”
When the pandemic struck, sisters Chloe and Halle, ages 22 and 20, respectively had finished recording the album. Halle was even in London rehearsing for Disney’s live-action reboot of “The Little Mermaid.”
“We believe in divine timing,” they said. “Funnily enough, this time has allowed us to expand our creativity and think outside of the box when it comes to our music and visuals.”
Since their album’s release in June, the sisters have become expert remote performers, staging a laser light show for Global Citizen’s “Global Goal” concert and creating a drone-assisted pool backdrop on the “Today” show.
“In the midst of this crazy year of 2020, we want our music to bring peace and healing for listeners,” they said.
