Mark Garner of A+E Networks joined Variety Co-Editor-in-Chief Andrew Wallenstein at Variety’s Entertainment Summit at CES last week alongside John Harrison of EY and Radha Subramanyam of CBS Corp. for a conversation on driving innovation in media.
The panel kicked off with discussion of a potential recession, with each guest speaker explaining how such concerns affect their businesses.
“Companies are still gonna need to invest in content and exclusive IP and capabilities,” said Harrison. “To the extent there is softness in the economy, relative to what we saw in ’08 and ’09, there could be more sensitivity around ad revenue as digital platforms have gotten bigger and more sophisticated, and I think also with cord-cutting becoming a thing…you could see an acceleration there.”
