'Lady Bird' Star Saoirse Ronan Wanted to 'Celebrate and Honor' Mother-Daughter Relationships

Writer/director Greta Gerwig and star Saoirse Ronan stopped by the Variety Screening Series presented by FilmStruck to talk about their new film, “Lady Bird.”

Ronan took a moment to talk about the most important relationship in the film: the titular Lady Bird and her mother, played by Laurie Metcalf.

“Any opportunity to celebrate and honor a mother and daughter’s relationship, you should do it,” she said. “I’m very, very close to my mom and I think the thing about it is they’re these two people that love each other so desperately and unconditionally, but they just don’t understand where the other one is coming from at this point.”
