Stars Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, and Alessandro Nivola and director Sebastian Lelio stopped by the Variety Studio Presented by AT&T at the Toronto International Film Festival to talk about their new film, “Disobedience.”

Weisz explained that, before she found “Disobedience,” she was on the hunt for a movie with at least two great female roles and “read a lot of lesbian literature in my pursuit of that.”

“This one just struck as something that was very interesting because it’s contemporary, it’s set in a community in North London that exists, but people really don’t know much about,” she said. “And it’s about obedience and disobedience and freedom and set in a society where there are many things that are forbidden, including homosexuality. It’s like, not on. So it was a good context for, kind of a forbidden love story.”
