Pink Sweat$ shared an intimate live performance of his song “At My Worst” from his recent “Prelude” EP in the sixth and latest episode of “Live From My Den,” the Artists Den series presented with Variety. The segment, also featuring the singer’s brother on the piano, was recorded in his L.A. home.
In the 23-minute clip, Pink Sweat$, whose real name is David Bowden, talks about breaking into the R&B scene with his debut EP in 2018 and the inspiration behind his EP “The Prelude” that was released in July. The artist joined the conversation from his intimate workspace with pink walls, and took the audience through a quick tour, during which he showcased his recording equipment and drum set.
Having moved to L.A. only two years ago, Sweat$ said his music is still heavily influenced by his Philadelphia roots. “I learned everything in Philly. I learned how to create, writing songs, playing instruments — that’s the core of who I am since I was five years old,” he said during a conversation with Variety’s Jem Aswad. “Hopping on the drum set the first time at the cornerstone church was kind of the hub of everything music-related. That was the one place where everyone let you be yourself.”
The clip also features the singer’s performance of “Honesty,” “Lows” and “17.”
Since its launch in October, “Live From My Den” has featured a wide range of top artists and rising stars, including Sebastián Yatra, Aloe Blacc, Glass Animals, Phantogram, Foster the People and The Head and The Heart. The digital series captures musicians in the comfort of their homes, studios and other creative spaces that are most meaningful to them.
