Oscar nominations were unveiled on Tuesday, and Variety editors sat down to discuss this year’s biggest snubs and surprises.

“A Star Is Born” picked up eight nods, including an acting nomination for Bradley Cooper. However, Cooper wasn’t recognized for directing the musical drama.

On a promising note, after years of being overlooked by the Academy, Spike Lee finally got a directing nomination for “BlacKkKlansman.”

Another snub was on the documentary front, where “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” a look at TV personality Fred Rogers, failed to get any awards love.
