Jennifer Lawrence Recalls Tearing Her Diaphragm on 'Mother!' Set: 'I Lost Control of Myself'

Jennifer Lawrence said creating Darren Aronofsky’s new film “Mother!” took a physical toll on her body.

“I’ve never had to go this dark before,” she said. “So I just kind of lost control of myself. I tore my diaphragm and popped my chest rib out. I don’t know if I’d ever work with Darren again.”

Aronofsky chimed in to talk about how the film should be interpreted.

“I wrote it in the eighth year of [former President Barack] Obama and it’s coming out in the first year of [current President Donald] Trump,” Aronofsky explained. “My intention was very different from where we are now.”

Aronofsky and Lawrence took part in a conversation at the Toronto Film Festival’s Variety Studio Presented by AT&T.
