Michael B. Jordan, one of the stars and producers of the legal drama “Just Mercy,” said, during his Variety cover shoot, he wanted the whole world to know about the real-life wrongful conviction depicted in the film.

He plays attorney Bryan Stevenson, who takes on the case of Walter McMillian, a black man imprisoned for allegedly murdering a white woman. The movie is based on Stevenson’s novel, “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.”

“This man has sacrificed so much. He’s dedicated his life to this cause, to equal justice. I felt a sense of responsibility to tell this story, to make sure as many people as possible could see this film,” Jordan said. “It’s not just about the Walter McMillians of the world … it’s something that affects everybody worldwide.”
