“The Handmaid’s Tale” author Margaret Atwood discussed her graphic novel series “Angel Catbird” and her writing career as part of her cover shoot for Variety‘s Power of Women New York issue.

Atwood revealed herself to be a comic book fan, with some of her favorites including “Little Lulu” and “Plastic Man.”

“I really like comic books because I grew up in the 1940s, and that was the art form that children weren’t supposed to indulge in because it was bad for them,” she said.

She also added her best piece of advice for aspiring writers: “You can’t be a writer unless you actually write something. So, if you’re scared of the page, just remember, nobody will see it unless you allow them to.”
