“Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart says it like it is — especially when it comes to issues she’s passionate about, like mental health and body positivity.

For her courage to speak out, Reinhart received the H&M Conscious Award at Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood 2018 event. Speaking to Variety‘s Marc Malkin on the red carpet, she talked about the impact she hopes her activism has on others.

“It all comes back to mental health and treating it a lot more seriously and talking about it in schools, being educated about it,” she said. “I used to cry everyday before school because I was terrified of going. In a way, I hope that my story can inspire other people to maybe reach out for help.”

Later, she took the stage to accept her award and emphasis the importance of being open about your experience.

“So few influencers were actually willing to talk about their flaws and that’s an idea that I wanted to challenge and that’s when I realized how important it was to stay authentically myself: imperfect but still powerful,” she said. “Being proud of who you are is a power that not all of us possess but we should all be conscious of the power we have to change someone else’s world, simply by being open about our own faults and creating a caring environment for those who are looking to share their own experiences.”
