In a Variety “Actors on Actors” interview between John Legend and Tiffany Haddish, Haddish was curious as to how Legend got his voice back between his tour and his appearance as Jesus on NBC’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” She found herself floored when the Grammy-winning singer revealed to her that he occasionally takes steroids when he’s recovering his voice between gigs in addition to drinking water and giving his voice a rest.
“There’s all kinds of drugs they’ll give you,” Legend told her. “They’ll give you steroids if it’s really bad.”
Haddish joked that he shouldn’t be so open about his steroid use lest he get disqualified from the rest of his musical competition, to which Legend broke it to her that steroid use is more of a norm in the music industry than she assumed.
“Trust me, I promise you every famous singer you know has had to take some prednisone every once in awhile to get their voice back,” he said.
When Haddish asked if Beyoncé did this, Legend laughed and said he wasn’t sure, but assumed even the Queen B wasn’t immune.
“Well I hope the Grammys don’t get mean [and decide] to take your Grammys back,” Haddish joked.
“PED crisis at the Grammys!” Legend laughed.
“Actors on Actors” will air in two episodes on PBS SoCal KOCE, the first on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. and the second on Thursday, June 21 at 7 p.m.
