Jennifer Lopez’s “Hustlers” not only starred women, but was made by women — and it’s not lost on the superstar how special that is.
“We had such a big part in getting [the movie] made. All these women — woman producer, woman director, women stars in the movie. It’s pretty amazing and hard to do,” Lopez told Variety‘s Marc Malkin on the red carpet at the Gotham Awards.
“Hustlers” stars Lopez as an erotic dancer named Ramona who partakes in an illegal get-rich scheme. Her performance has garnered awards attention, and could possibly land her more plaudits once Golden Globes and Oscars nominations are announced.
“It’s crazy to be here in my home town to be recognized for a movie that I produced, not just starred in, but produced,” Lopez said. “It’s hard to get movies made period, right now. But to get this kind of movie made, and for it to hit the consciousness and the zeitgeist the way it has, it’s a pretty special thing. We realize how fortunate we are.”
