Why does TV often have more diverse faces than film, which sees such backlash as #OscarsSoWhite?

Jennifer Lopez of “Shades of Blue” and Felicity Huffman of “American Crime” attempted to answer that question during Variety and PBS’ “Actors on Actors.” Lopez, in fact, shared a first-hand story about the casting of “Shades of Blue.” The character of Loman on the NBC cop drama was originally white — however, a black actor, Dayo Okeniyi, was ultimately cast in the role.

The entire interview can be watched when the two-part fourth-season premiere of “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors” airs June 12 and June 19 on PBS SoCal. Presented by Shopbop/East Dane, the episodes will also be available to stream on Variety.com.
