Jennifer Hudson Stuns with Rendition of 'Amazing Grace'

All eyes were on Aretha Franklin at the R&B artist’s memorial service Friday. Last January the singer and Oscar-winner announced she would be starring in a biopic centered around the late diva’s life story.

When it came time to pick musicians to pay tribute at Franklin’s memorial service, Hudson was a natural choice.

The star studded lineup had already featured the likes of Faith Hill, Ariana Grande, Fantasia and Chaka Khan, but the Grammy Award-winning singer succeeded in delivering an electrifying performance that resulted in a standing ovation.

Hudson began her rendition of “Amazing Grace,” a track Franklin included on her own album in 1972, with soft vocals and some jazzy piano rifts. However, following the end of the first verse, she unleashed her full voice.

Backed by the Aretha Franklin Orchestra and choir, Hudson closed out the 8-hour ceremony on a similar cue before Rev. Jasper Williams Jr. delivered his rousing eulogy.
