One of Bridges’ biggest films to date — at least production and budget wise — was 2008’s “Iron Man” opposite Robert Downey Jr.

The actor recalls filming the blockbuster in conversation with fellow thesp Matthew McConaughey for the fifth season of Variety and PBS’ series “Actors on Actors.”

Constant script changes were a challenge for Bridges, who likes knowing his lines backwards and forwards when arriving on set.

“It turned out that many times — 10, 12, 15 times — we would show up for the days work, not knowing what we were gonna shoot,” Bridges said. “All the guys in the studio are sitting there tapping their foot, looking at their watch, and we’re sitting in my trailer trying to figure out my lines.”

Of course, in the end, it all worked out. The movie ended up serving as the kick-off for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The interview will air in its entirety on Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” Season 5, presented by The Venetian Las Vegas, which debuts on PBS SoCal on Jan. 3.
