Minhal Baig’s film “Hala” is based on her own life and dynamic with her parents, who are immigrants from Pakistan. Jada Pinkett Smith openly admits it was hard to make a movie like this in Hollywood.
It’s due to those difficulties that Pinkett Smith said she got on board to help Baig expand her short film to a feature, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
“When I first met her and saw her short, I was really impressed with her talent and I was very interested in her story,” said Pinkett Smith at Variety Sundance Studio presented by AT&T. “Just flowing resources to her in the way that we could so that her voice could be heard and that her story could be told.”
