Gary Oldman Compares Winston Churchill Transformation in 'Darkest Hour' to 'Running a Marathon'

“Darkest Hour” star Gary Oldman talked about his buzzy transformation into Winston Churchill while stopping by the Variety Studio Presented by AT&T.

“I think I hold the record now. I think it was 50 consecutive days in it,” Oldman said. “It’s like a mindset you have. Like running a marathon.”

He added, “It was very comfortable apart from a bout of nicotine poisoning.”

Director Joe Wright laughed, “All the cigars … How does nicotine poisoning express itself?”

“It’s not pretty,” Oldman replied. “Especially when you’re in a fat suit.”
