Charlie Hunnam cold-called director Justin Kurzel in order to get cast in “True History of the Kelly Gang,” which follows the real-life 19th century Australian outlaw Ned Kelly.

“I had worked with a director and we had just been talking about process and working with people we really admire and he said to me, ‘You should just start writing letters to your favorite directors, or ask them for coffee and just convey your passion for their work and express your desire to work with them.’ So I called Justin — I knew Justin’s agent — and asked him for a cup of coffee.”
