“Captain Marvel” is poised to be a huge box office hit, but the reviews are mixed.

The first female-led superhero film to be released by Marvel and only the second major comic-book movie to focus on a heroine, “Captain Marvel” is a crucial big-budget project, moving in the right — and necessary — direction for Hollywood. Despite the significant message the movie sends audiences, many critics have taken issue with “Captain Marvel,” calling it “convoluted” and “average.”
