“Barry is in a massive quandry, and he’s kind of mastering the art of denial. That’s all I’m gonna say,” Bill Hader told Variety through a fit of giggles. Hader said he enjoys grappling with the dichotomy of murderer versus thespian that comes through in his character Barry, a struggling actor who’s also a very talented hitman.
“The hitman always works in darkness and he has to be anonymous and actors wanna be in the spotlight and known. They’re two just polar opposite worlds,” Hader explained.
The “SNL” alum says Barry’s desperate desire to be an actor despite it being an uphill battle is something audiences can relate to. “Living in Los Angeles, you constantly feel the desperation of actors…but it’s not just people who’ve made it yet. I’ve seen it in people who’ve made it,” he said.
