Awkwafina has some strong suggestions for Academy Awards producers next year.
“More Olympic breakdancing. Maybe a karaoke booth,” she told Variety on Sunday’s Oscars red carpet. “Hire me, hire me!”
The “Crazy Rich Asians” star was out in full force at this year’s Academy Awards, where she presented awards for animated short film and documentary short subject alongside comedian John Mulaney.
“It’s a crazy scene in my mind right now,” she said about being at the Oscars. “I saw Willem Dafoe, and I was like, ‘That’s Willem Dafoe, dude, that’s awesome!’ Yeah, it’s going really good.”
Awkwafina also commented on the Academy’s snub of “Crazy Rich Asians,” which didn’t receive a single nomination despite widespread commercial success.
“I mean I think that at the end of the day, we had an amazing campaign, and when we were shooting the movie, we didn’t know that there was an audience for it. We didn’t know who this was for, really,” she said. “But it found that reception really quickly, and I think that everything that we thought about the movie was validated. And that’s all we could ask for.”
“It’s an honor just to be here,” she continued. “So that’s really cool.”
