DC is making a big bet on “Aquaman,” which opened huge overseas and has comic book fans excited to head to theaters, but with mixed reviews, some critics aren’t convinced the property should have ever come to the big screen.

Variety senior correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister sits down with executive editor of film and media, Brent Lang, to discuss the current state of DC films — from “Justice League” to “Suicide Squad” to “Batman v. Superman,” the Warner Bros. studio has released a handful of critically panned films over recent years, but now seems to be re-shifting toward more upbeat flicks like “Aquaman,” “Shazam,” “The Flash,” “Birds of Prey” and, of course, “Wonder Woman.” Can hits like “Wonder Woman” and perhaps “Aquaman” put the company back on track?
