How Amy Adams Learned How to 'Roll With it' From Joaquin Phoenix, Paul Thomas Anderson

Amy Adams tells Nicole Kidman during Variety Actors on Actors conversation that although she takes preparing for a role seriously, she learned the hard way while filming 2012’s “The Master” that it’s just as crucial to “roll with it.” In one scene, she was supposed to wake up co-star Joaquin Phoenix, but when he wouldn’t budge, she began panicking.

“I didn’t know what to do, I freaked out because I was like, ‘No, here’s how the scene goes,'” Adams says. “I’d pour water on his head now. I’d be like, ‘You want to play that game, Joaquin? Here you go.”
