“Solo: A Star Wars Story’s” Alden Ehrenreich needed to learn a language most actors don’t have in their toolkits — Shyriiwook. Realizing some of his lines in the new film involved the Wookiee language, he took to YouTube prior to shooting and watched Shyriiwook videos.
Ehrenreich credits Joonas Suotamo, the actor who plays Chewbacca, for teaching him “deep cut Wookiee things I didn’t know about.”
The first three weeks of production on “Solo” were spent shooting a Chewbacca mud fight scene. Ehrenreich called the experience “a blast and a great way to start; we got close with the crew very quickly.” Forty crew members covered in plastic were on site in tight quarters, while the cast was completely drenched in mud for entire days of filming. Ehrenreich said the mud “sucked the life out of your whole body” and that the experience was a great bonding moment for everyone involved.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is now playing in theaters.
