'A Stupid and Futile Gesture' Cast on That Food Fight Scene: 'It Was Absolutely Disgusting'

“A Stupid and Futile Gesture” director David Wain and stars Joel McHale, Domhnall Gleeson, Thomas Lennon, and Emmy Rossum stopped by the Variety Studio presented by AT&T to talk about the new film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

The movie follows the highs and lows of the life of comedy writer Doug Kenney, the founder of National Lampoon magazine, and depicts a massive food fight at Kenney’s own funeral. According to the cast, that scene got a little… graphic.

“The food fight was one of the grossest things I’ve ever been a part of in any film,” said Lennon.

“You don’t want egg salad thrown at you,” Rossum added, with McHale pointing out, “And that was in a funeral home.”
