Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy: Trainwreck
“I thought that Judd [Apatow] was pranking me, I never thought the movie was going to be made. My TV show hadn’t even been made yet and Judd came to me with this, so I was very surprised,” Schumer said. “When we were filming it I had a feeling we were involved with something great and after the first screening I started crying from what I was seeing, but still you never know. This whole thing felt very special from the start.”

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: “The Revenant”
“You have a great passion for different things you do in life and this film, in particular, it does feel good to be rewarded because it was like leaving home for this epic adventure saga, given how much time we dedicated to the shoot. When [Alejandro González Iñárritu] first came to me, it became hard for him to even articulate where he wanted it to go, so really it was like embarking on this type of saga together.”
Alicia Vikander

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: The Danish Girl; Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: Ex Machina
“Quite a whirlwind, such different films and I’m so happy both got acknowledged,” Vikander said. “With ‘Danish Girl,’ when I read the script, I was astonished by the fact that I hadn’t heard the story. For me, they were pioneers and it felt like a story that had to be told. I have had such an immense amount of generosity from the transgender community. With ‘Ex Machina,’ it has been so long since I read the script and it was shot in just six weeks, but it was a film everyone was excited about. It’s amazing that a smaller film was able to be seen by so many and receive this kind of support.”

Best Director – Motion Picture: The Revenant
“I can’t believe this time last year we were in Calgary shooting ‘The Revenant,’ and right now I’m in London and just heard the good news! I’m thrilled for our incredible cast and crew. Any nominations for this film are an acknowledgement of them, their hard work and great passion. I’m especially happy for Leo, his emotional performance and what he does is truly remarkable. This film is very personal for me, so I think I will have a drink with my daughter tonight to toast to everyone who was a part of it. Thank you to the HFPA, this is very nice.”

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Brooklyn
“I couldn’t be happier. It’s been like a dream because of the love for the film. The more films you do and see how many elements go into a film, you really appreciate when it all comes together. We had such a brilliant script, John (Crowley) also had his own connection with the story and knew what kind of film he wanted to make and you can really see that in the final product.”

“We wanted people to engage with the characters,” said “Anomalisa” directors Duke Johnson and Charlie Kaufman. “We were very interested in creating a world that serviced the actors who were apart of it. “These are the two great honors, one being recognized by my peers yesterday and by the HFPA,” Malek said. “I’m grateful for the moment and to have my executive producer [Sam Esmail] and Christian [Slater] nominated… USA has been at the top for so many years and it’s nice to be recognized. They have provided such a great home for us and allowed us to take the story in a direction that was very challenging and unique and just pushed the envelope with everything.”

Wagner Moura

Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama: Narcos
“I had to arrive here in Bogota before the rest of the cast because I didn’t speak Spanish. I arrived here and I booked myself in a Spanish course. This is now one very happy moment of a journey that started at the end of 2013. I feel great… As a [Latin American], I wanted to give respect for the Colombian history. I tried to learn as much as I could about the modern Colombian history. I read whatever I could about Pablo Escobar and the Colombian drug trade. My main concern was to make this a respectful show and not a show about good American cops who go into Colombia. I’m really proud of the show.”

Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy: Scream Queens
“I’m thrilled to represent this talented squad of young actors, crew and our creative engines, Ryan, Brad & Ian. Our squad goals were to deliver something very new to the world, and based on the two-hour finale, I’d say we did.”
“I’ve never had an opportunity to have strong writing has consistent as this. That’s been the gift, to relax into the writing. That’s not been my career. When the writing’s been strong, I’m strong. This is another opportunity to keep this very unusual show in the conversation which it deserves to be. I’m really proud of it.”
Kate Winslet

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: Steve Jobs
“It’s very different from getting a nomination 20 years ago, because now we have the internet and social media, so it’s hard to close your eyes and block out stuff like ‘Who is the frontrunner?’ and who is up for the award. It’s unavoidable now. I am so thrilled and it’s very exciting and great for the girls who are also nominated in such a strong year. This film was such hard work and a challenging role, so it’s nice to see it acknowledged in some way. The commitment and hard work really stood out compared to past roles. There was no relaxing; it was proper lockdown. So to feel that sense of ‘We are all in this together’ and to experiment together and be really ready to go to work — that sense of companionship we had to have, because it was really tough. I felt an immense sense of loyalty to Joanna [Hoffman], especially given her relationship with Steve. So I very much wanted to honor and respect the nature of that relationship.”
Paul Dano

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture; Love & Mercy
“I’m super happy to have a reaction at all, definitely trying to let myself feel good and enjoy the moment. At first it was totally scary, taking on the role because Brian [Wilson] was trusting us and he was alive and revered. I felt deeply connected to Brian and the part and you have to give yourself license to do your thing. I spent months preparing before even meeting him because I felt I needed to be in touch with who Brian is and be in touch with his music.”
Good Dinosaur

“The journey has been up and down and this is a really nice thing for our crew and Pixar, pretty great,” said Peter Sohn, director of “The Good Dinosaur.” “We really tried to find that magic. This year audiences have been blown away by the depth of that creativity from a wonderful range of unique voices and distinctive stories and we salute the filmmakers and cast from ‘Carol,’ ‘Room,’ ‘Youth’ and ‘Ex Machina’ nominated this morning by the Golden Globes. Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Bridge of Spies; Best Actor in a Limited-Series or TV Movie: Wolf Hall
“I want to thank the members of the HFPA for nominating my work in both ‘Bridge of Spies’ and ‘Wolf Hall.’ My work does not stand alone, and only comes together with the help of all the talented craftspeople I have had the pleasure to work with on ‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Bridge of Spies,’ particularly Peter Kosminsky and Steven Spielberg who are directly responsible for my performance in both pieces. I would especially like to acknowledge my friend Tom Hanks. I don’t think you can isolate my playing of Abel from Tom’s playing of Donovan. It is the friendship between us as characters that should be awarded. Many blessings.”

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture: The Big Short
“You don’t really dare think about awards when making the movie; you just want to stay in the zone of making the movie. We knew we were getting into the game a little late, so we were never really sure what would happen. I had no idea how it would come out, but it has been a nice surprise so far. You do get a good idea of pacing and time shift from my work in comedy and that helped us a lot given how big the ensemble is and all the tone shifts. As for the cast, it’s a testament to Michael Lewis’ book that brought in the talent. That was very cool to see and never stopped and there isn’t a weak spot in this cast at all.”

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: The Hateful Eight
“Thanks to the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing two projects that mean so much to me. Getting an acting nomination for my role as Daisy in ‘The Hateful Eight’ is a testament to the great Quentin Tarantino and would not have been possible without the cast (especially the one I was handcuffed to, Kurt Russell). ‘Anomalisa’ is a project so close to my heart and Charlie and Duke’s film is mind-blowing. I’m so happy people are loving it as much as I do. I never get such great news while making my son’s lunch in the morning!!”

Inside Out

Best Animated Feature Film
“We are so proud of it,” said Jonas Rivera, producer of “Inside Out.” “[It’s a] cool year to have two originals, with this and ‘Good Dinosaur.’ Me and Pete [Docter] lean toward the originals and this was a personal film we made for kids. This film was based on observing our kids and what it’s like to be a kid again. We came to this idea that everyone in the world has felt that shift from one view to another and we really tried capturing that on film.”
Outlander

Best TV Series, Drama
“My phone started ringing and I thought, ‘Why’s my agent calling me at this time in the morning?’ I hit snooze and it just kept ringing,” said “Outlander” creator/showrunner Ron D. Moore. “Finally I picked up and said, ‘Yeah what do you want?’ I yelled out of the room to tell my wife Terry Dresbach, who’s the costume designer on the show. She came in and said, ‘Did somebody die?’… It’s a big honor. It will raise their public profile … In some ways, I think this validates it. This genre often gets written off in the press.”

Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series, or TV Movie: Downton Abbey
“I’m on set right now and just heard this amazing news. I am absolutely blown away! I couldn’t be more grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination and their continued support. ‘Downton Abbey’ and Anna Bates have been a big part of my life for some years now. It has been the most exciting journey alongside the most wonderful people. I feel so lucky to have portrayed this character and to be recognized alongside these incredibly talented actresses, who have given such strong, inspirational performances. I couldn’t be happier!!!!”

Best TV Series, Drama; Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama: Taraji P. Henson Showrunner Ilene Chaiken: “It’s a nice way to wake up. It’s fabulous. It’s thrilling. It’s amazing to be recognized by the Foreign Press. It means everything in our world to get that particular nod. Of course, it’s so great to have Taraji out there again just carrying the flag for ‘Empire,’ which she does all over the world. It’s also really, really cool broadcast network on that list. It’s very very gratifying… For us, it just reinforces and galvanizes us to do better and to keep pushing ourselves and to keep being fresh and to keep challenging ourselves. We’re doing something that feels new and fresh and worth taking taking notice. That’s what it does for us. It fuels us.”
Executive producer Danny StrongI’m incredibly honored that EMPIRE has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. Fargo

Best TV Movie or Limited-Series Series creator Noah Hawley on Fargo competing as a limited series:
“It’s never my goal to game the system. It was very hard for me last year to sit on the bench for the WGA nominations [after it was deemed to be a drama series] because I wrote all 10 hours. I wanted to be recognized by my peers and if the Emmys and Golden Globes were going to recognize us … Every year is a different movie; ‘American Horror Story’ is the same scenario. We have literal connections. what I like about what we’ve done with ‘Fargo’ is you can now watch it in some order. You can watch it chronologically in 1970s with Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson) and then the movie and then the first season, or you can watch it how it aired.”

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television: “Mr. Robot”
“It’s surreal. There’s a lovely tingly feeling that comes along with it. It’s forcing me into the now as much as possible.
I got this pilot script from my agent and it was called Mr. Robot. That was initially all I knew about it. And I thought, man, am I going to play a guy with wires inside him? I didn’t know what to expect.
It’s exciting to be at a place with a network that was looking to go in that direction. It’s a huge gamble for them I’m glad it’s paid off in this particular way.”

Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy: Crazy Ex Girlfriend
“My name was called first because I think it was alphabetical. Literlaly the second I heard it, I paused it and shook my husband from a deep slumber and I hugged him really tightly. I’m so glad I woke up… There’s so much good television and this year especially has been such a year for good television and good television comedy — so many people and so many women are out there doing amazing work.”
The Grinder (Fox)

This legal comedy starring Rob Lowe as an actor who returns to the hometown of his lawyer brother played by Fred Savage garnered mostly positive reviews lasted a full 22 episodes but never really clicked with audiences. Airing on Fox’s lightly watched Tuesday lineup, it averaged a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers overall in Nielsen’s “live plus-7” estimates.

Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy: Blunt Talk
“I heard from inside the house a howl that I knew was my wife, who I thought was asleep. She’s terrified of insects and I’d assumed one had crawled into bed with her. In fact, she was already awake and was watching the nominations online. We had a glass of champagne for breakfast instead of the mango juice I’d been having every morning… Over the years, I have — as one has to — developed a kind of philosophy awards. It’s marvelous when you get them and you’re nominated, but it also has to be marvelous when your show has just done well. This is our first season and it’s marvelous to get the pat on the back from the Hollywood Foreign Press.”
Tom McCarthy

Best Director – Motion Picture: Spotlight
“It has been a really long ride with this movie and we all know how hard it is to make movies like this in today’s market. Credit to our producers in getting this made, because there was a time when this film almost didn’t get made. Today is a really exciting day and really does help raise awareness of the movie. The film is about journalism, institutional abuse — it’s about faith and faith in institutions and it asks very important questions that people ask when they leave the theater. Movies don’t have to do that, but it is very exciting when a film like this connects with people.”

Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series, or TV Movie: Transparent
“I’m ecstatic! I am over the moon. I never thought this would be something that would be happening for me at this time of my life and my career. Anything can happen to you, even as you mature in your career. There are so many young people who say, ‘I want it to happen now!’ And I felt the same way, but having hung in there for a long time, and to have the blessing of this show, and having this happen now in my career is quite extraordinary. I get to work with the most extraordinary people on such an important and wonderful and brilliant show and we get to make a show that really can make a difference, which is what I always longed to do with my work.” On Jeffrey Tambor: “What has happened for him is the demonstration of what I’m talking about — this is a man that has done extraordinary work through his career. And now, to get this response and the accolades, it’s so right and the fact that we get to be together in this is just really extraordinary. He had said to me over time, you’re going to get nominated. If anybody in the world could be lucky enough to work with him, they will have not only the time their life but also a great visionary and teacher. I watch him work and I am in constant awe. I can’t give you enough adjectives about him and how much I deeply and profoundly love him.”

On Judith Light:
