2022 OSCARS PREDICTIONS:
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
UPDATED: Sept 23, 2021
AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY: The ensemble of “Belfast” is a prime candidate to be gobbled up by the SAG Awards in the acting realm. Individual nominations could come for Irish veteran actor Ciarán Hinds, who’s never been nominated despite outstanding performances in films like “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” (2011) and Academy Award winner Judi Dench (“Shakespeare in Love”), who gets the final moment of the film to transform the audience into a puddle of tears.
Kodi Smit-McPhee, who began his journey at Telluride in 2009 with “The Road” opposite Viggo Mortensen, is an invigorating presence in “The Power of the Dog,” emerging as a young Anthony Perkins. Jesse Plemons has the line of the movie and could help Campion compete in adapted screenplay. It’s unsure which of the two men, if either, will seduce the Academy the most.
Woody Norman is one of the greatest finds, and it’s difficult to not be enamored by his whimsical deliveries and touching beats. Freddie Highmore (“Finding Neverland”) and Jacob Tremblay (“Room”) are two of the recent child actors to come up short for Academy love. It will be up to the SAG nominating committee, which is more open to younger thespians, to keep him in the convo.
Oscar nominations voting begins on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, and will end on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022. The official Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, with the ceremony taking place on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
