Rotana Group

President, Rotana TV

As an Arabic film and music production powerhouse, Rotana operates a top TV network with 13 leading free-to-air channels, several radio stations and the world’s largest Arabic movie and music libraries. In August, it invested $267 million in music-streaming company Deezer, forging a strategic partnership under which Deezer will exclusively distribute its content in the Middle East and North Africa. It was the first major deal since its owner, Saudi billionaire Alwaleed bin Talal, who holds stakes in digital and entertainment companies such as Twitter, Apple and Euro Disney, was detained in an alleged crackdown on corruption. Before Saudi Arabia lifted its ban on cinema last December, Al-Shabanah backed the kingdom’s first feature, “Wadjda,” and announced plans to nurture local filmmakers.
