While it’s true that his out-of-nowhere album “Dawn FM” didn’t have the impact of his double-platinum, pandemic-era “After Hours” or two earlier sets that went four-times platinum, The Weeknd remained newsworthy in 2022, pairing with Swedish House Mafia as a late headliner for Coachella in April and kicking off his own U.S. stadium tour. Guesting on other artists’ singles added to his trophy case: Beyoncé’s 2016 track “6 Inch” went platinum; his Doja Cat collaboration from last year, “You Right,” went double platinum; and Future’s 2016 release “Low Life” reached eight-times platinum. His immersive, album-inspired Amazon Prime Video special “The Dawn FM Experience” debuted in February, and HBO’s drama series “The Idol,” with Lily-Rose Depp, lies ahead. He unveiled a provocative teaser for the show in August at his Las Vegas stadium show.
