Epic Records

Chairman / CEO

A three-decade veteran of the major-label system, Rhone was promoted to chairman of Sony Music’s Epic Records in April 2019, making her the first woman of color with the title. But it wasn’t her first time running a record company. That came in 1994, when she was appointed chair at Elektra Records, then home to Metallica, Missy Elliott and Natalie Merchant (and again at Universal Motown as president a decade later). Epic’s current roster, covering a wide spectrum of genres, includes Camila Cabello, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, French Montana, Meghan Trainor and DJ Khaled. Among Rhone’s 2019 personal and professional bestowals: an honorary doctorate from Boston’s Berklee College of Music and the City of Hope’s highest honor, the Spirit of Life Award.
