Critics may be apoplectic about the conservative-leaning primetime lineup, but Fox News ratings remained sky high during an election year. It’s the most-watched basic cable network for five years running, ending 2020 with 3.6 million primetime viewers (the most in cable news history, per Nielsen). Despite metrics to brag over, Scott has stayed focused on expanding into new frontiers. She continued to lock down key talent, including Laura Ingraham and John Roberts, the latter signing to stay on as White House correspondent in October. She set up a publishing imprint with corporate sibling HarperCollins that will extend to books penned by some of Fox’s other anchors. The Fox News brand also grew its global footprint in 2020 via a streaming app that went live in 15 countries. Having risen through the ranks at the network since its launch 24 years ago, Scott is proving to be a less controversial leader than her predecessor, Roger Ailes.
