Sonia
Martínez

Director, Fiction

Joining Atresmedia in 2006, Martínez has stewarded multiple drama hits at the Spanish broadcast network, including “Money Heist” — “La Casa de Papal” — which Netflix turned into a global record breaker for non-English-speaking series. The most powerful woman in Spain’s burgeoning scripted-TV industry, she has been key to Atresmedia consolidating long-term production collaborations with top showrunners, including Bambú’s Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández Valdés and Vancouver Media’s Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato. Shows such as “Money Heist” have given a gritty cable edge to Atresmedia’s free-to-air higher-end output, which the broadcaster capitalized on in December 2017 by launching Atresmedia Studios, with Martínez as guiding spirit, to produce for SVOD operators such as Amazon and Movistar Plus.
