Microsoft’s Xbox may sell the least systems of the big three console makers, but Nintendo and Play­Station can’t match Bond’s Xbox Game Pass strategy, where day-one releases for new and exclusive games are often available to paying subscribers. Game Pass sports more than 25 million subscribers with access to a variety of AAA and smaller games from first-, second- and third-party publishers, and she continues to bring this availability well beyond consoles and PC, having struck new deals with Logitech and Meta for their respective new handheld and VR headset hardware. While Xbox has been struggling to meet the growth targets for Game Pass set by Microsoft, the service’s success has already led competitor Sony Interactive Entertainment to carry out an overhaul of its own subscription strategy in 2022, despite SIE’s Play­Station consoles outnumbering Xbox two to one.
