Bilibili began as a niche streamer, home to fans of anime, comics and games. But with entrepreneur Chen at the helm, it has become ever more mainstream and one of China’s fastest-growing platforms — it’s often likened to YouTube — with some 237 monthly active users. In March, he steered the NASDAQ-listed company through a secondary Hong Kong listing that raised $2.6 billion. Although its stock has since been hammered by China’s unprecedented regulatory crackdown on the tech sector, the company is forging ahead with plans to grow by co-investing in new content appealing to its immense Gen Z audience. This year, that has included Chinese New Year animation “New Gods: Nezha Reborn,” “White Snake 2: Green Snake” and high school musical “The Day We Lit Up the Sky.”
