Rohinton Soli Screwvala was a cable-television pioneer in India. He founded UTV in 1990 and grew it into an entertainment conglomerate, releasing the 2006’s “Rang De Basanti” and 2008’s “The Happening,” with Mark Wahlberg. Disney India took increasing stakes in UTV, with Screwvala as managing director. Branching out, he moved on to The Swades Foundation, which ameliorates poverty, and Unilazer Ventures, which supports Indian start-ups, among other charitable, educational and sports interests. He returned in 2018 with RSVP Movies, producing Net-flix original “Love Per Square Foot” and TIFF people’s choice winner “The Man Who Feels No Pain.” Next year will see “The Sky Is Pink,” a biopic that will bring Priyanka Chopra back home.
