At the end of August 2021, Columbia shared on Instagram that it had just achieved its 50th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2019 as part of a milestone streak, a notable run that reflected Perry’s commitment to restore Columbia’s legacy as a hitmaker since he took over the label in 2018. By the end of 2021, the label earned 33 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for the calendar year, the most in any year of the label’s history. That achievement was pieced together by singles from Lil Nas X, 24KGoldn, the Kid LAROI, Polo G, BTS and Adele. Adele’s arrival also marked the first time since 2005 that one label held the chart’s top three slots with three different artists. To maintain momentum, Perry lured Sire president Rani Hancock back to Sony in July to become Columbia’s EVP and head of A&R.
