The Walt Disney Company

Robert
Chapek

CEO

Chapek barely had a chance to celebrate after being named CEO of The Walt Disney Company in February 2020, taking over for Bob Iger. Less than a month later, the pandemic shutdown hit, pausing the company’s film releases and shuttering its theme parks. As a result, Disney’s revenues dropped 42% in fiscal Q3 2020 and it reported a net loss of $4.7 billion. In late September, it announced it was laying off 28,000 workers. If anyone can meet the challenge, it’s Chapek, as he is renowned for his ability to navigate ever-shifting marketplaces and has committed to beefing up Disney Plus, the company’s newest asset, with a barrage of new programming unveiled in December. He joined Disney’s home entertainment division in 1993 and went on to do stints as president of distribution followed by consumer products, before being appointed chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in 2015.
