Johnson established himself as a major commercial filmmaker when he helmed 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” then took his career to a new level with his next film, 2019’s “Knives Out” from Lionsgate. The humorous whodunit is the rarest of birds in today’s Hollywood as a blockbuster, star-studded studio movie that a filmmaker directed from their own original script. Beyond the Oscar nomination for his screenplay, “Knives Out” went on prove its might even further when Netflix purchases the rights to two sequels for more than $400 million in March 2021, the first due in 2022. On the TV side, Johnson is also helming an original mystery series with star Natasha Lyonne (Netflix’s “Russian Doll”) for Peacock, and will also produce “The Three-Body Problem” from the creative duo behind “Game of Thrones” for Netflix.
