King

King made her feature directorial debut at the end of 2020 with Amazon’s fictionalized-history drama “One Night in Miami,” which earned her three Academy Award noms in 2021 and the chance to open the ceremony as the evening’s first presenter. Then the Oscar-winning actor rode over to the wild side, playing outlaw Trudy Smith in all-Black western “The Harder They Fall” on Netflix in October. King has also signed on for her next directing gig, adapting the Harlem Renaissance-set Image Comics series “Bitter Root” for Legendary. The adaptation is just one of the buzzworthy projects King is set to produce under her Royal Ties banner, which is behind “Shirley,” a biopic about Shirley Chisholm, America’s first Black congresswoman, in which she will also star.
