Actor

It’s been quite a couple of years for King, who hit her stride in 2018 with a film that would earn her an Oscar and a Golden Globe (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) and a TV role (“Seven Seconds”) that brought her an Emmy. She’ll be co-starring in HBO’s superhero series “Watchmen,” out of the DC comic, but is also spreading her wings into directing. Last year, she helmed two TV episodes (“The Good Doctor” and “Insecure”) while directing and executive producing the telefilm “The Finest,” about African-American sister NYPD officers. And this July she secured her first feature directing job for “One Night in Miami,” based on a real-life encounter between then Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and football star Jim Brown.
