Prentice
Penny

Penny made his name with provocative explorations of the Black experience through HBO’s “Insecure,” which he created and writes alongside co-creator and star Issa Rae, as well as Netflix’s “Uncorked” (2020), his writing-directing feature debut about a young man who dreams of becoming a sommelier while working in his father’s BBQ restaurant. He broke into the biz writing on the series “Girlfriends” and wrote for shows like “Scrubs,” “Happy Endings” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” His 2017 TruTV reality series “Upscale with Prentice Penny” about trying to live the high life didn’t make it past one season, but he keeps busy. Upcoming projects include writing and directing an untitled holiday film for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, and exec producing an untitled late-night show for HBO hosted by “SNL” writer Sam Jay.
