Republic is easily among the top three labels, with artists including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd in its stable. Swift’s eighth album, the pandemic-inspired “Folklore,” had the biggest week of any on Rolling Stone’s Top 200, with single “Cardigan” also bowing at the top. When stay-at-home orders delayed some labels’ big releases, Lipman and brother Avery, Republic’s president, filled the entertainment void by keeping the March release dates for The Weeknd’s “After Hours” and Pearl Jam’s “Gigaton,” the former topping both the album and singles charts. Lil Wayne, NAV and the late Pop Smoke also spiced up Republic with number one albums alongside Grande and Justin Bieber’s summer single “Stuck With U.”
