Head, Features

The lineup of original films Dentler brings to Apple TV+ is not as deep as those at Netflix and Amazon, but it is impressively diverse. His 2022 slate included Peter Farrelly’s “The Greatest Beer Run Ever,” starring Zac Efron; Lila Neugebauer’s return-from-war drama “Causeway,” with Jennifer Lawrence; Rodrigo Garcia’s “Raymond & Ray,” with Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke; and documentaries about trumpeter Louis Armstrong (“Black & Blues”), actor-director Sidney Poitier (“Sidney,” produced by Oprah Winfrey) and “Gutsy,” an eight-part docuseries based on Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton’s “The Book of Gutsy Women.” The platform’s movie output looks to increase after Apple’s deal with Skydance Media (“Top Gun: Maverick,” the “Mission: Impossible” franchise), which guarantees the prodco at least two fully financed films annually with budgets of up to $125 million.
