Scorsese finally got his long-gestating adaptation of David Grann’s novel “Killers of the Flower Moon” in front of cameras in 2021, reuniting him with frequent collaborators Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. The production had been delayed due to the pandemic and an escalating budget (reportedly in the $200 million range) that was eventually covered by Paramount and Apple for a theatrical release and Apple TV+ bow, respectively. It marks Scorsese’s 27th narrative feature since 1967 and the second to be made for a streamer after Netflix’s “The Irishman” in 2019. In 2021, he also helmed Netflix’s “Pretend It’s a City” docuseries, in which he interviews essayist Fran Lebowitz, and executive produced coming-of-age drama “Murena,” which debuted at Cannes.
