He provides counsel for the development, production and distribution of non-scripted/reality and scripted series on broadcast TV and cable networks, as well as for both live action and animated original productions. His practice extends to documentary film production and distribution as well.
One of his most complex recent accomplishments involved his client Oprah Winfrey, in a strategic collaboration with Weight Watchers International, Inc. By the time the deal was done, Winfrey acquired a 10 percent equity stake for nearly $43.2 million, with an option to acquire 5 percent more. Chamlin found the way through the tangle of corporate, branding, licensing and intellectual property issues involved in a deal of this magnitude.
In addition, he advises clients in matters pertaining to branded entertainment, such as advertiser-financed television shows, product placement, brand integration, merchandising and product licensing. He also can be found representing C-level entertainment industry executives as they negotiate long-term employment contracts.
A graduate of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Chamlin received his law degree from New York University School of Law. He serves on the board of trustees of New York Public Radio.
