United States Department of Justice

Assistant Attorney General, Antitrust Division

As head of the DOJ’s antitrust arm, Delhrahim has not been the rubber stamp of approval some might’ve expected in the business-friendly Trump era. Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox closed in March only after the latter had to divest its 22 regional sports networks, and the $26 billion T-Mobile/Sprint merger didn’t get the greenlight in July until moves were made to allow for viable competitors. Over the past year, the department has reached settlements with 101 companies after requiring them to stop sharing competitively sensitive information in the broadcast TV advertising space, and it recently opened a broad inquiry into the dominance of market-leading online platforms. It’s currently wrapping up its review of the 1948 consent decrees governing movie-studio ownership of theaters.
