Schwartz found an ingenious way to get her films into theatrical release during the coronavirus pandemic: Show them at drive-in theaters, where social distancing is baked into the experience. She also reached out to the owners of independent indoor theaters with “The Indie Theater Revival Project,” which offered them the opportunity to screen a selection of 150 IFC library titles culled from its 20-year history free of charge when they reopened for business. Although IFC Films made its name with dramas, docs and the occasional comedy, Schwartz has found increasing success for the company with horror movies such as recent releases “The Wretched” and “The Rental.” Last year, she launched IFC Films Unlimited, an SVOD service featuring several hundred titles from the company’s various distribution labels. She will step down from her position at the end of 2020.
