Nishimura has been a big part of Net­flix’s awards-seasons success, shep­herding projects that garnered 13 Academy Award nominations on the way to winning five Oscars, including 2021 best feature documentary for “My Octopus Teacher.” Daughter of a chemist father and a classical violinist mother, the onetime record company publicist joined the streamer in 2007 as a VP of independent content acquisition. She launched its documentary and stand-up comedy initiatives in 2013 and was promoted to VP of the documentary and independent film division in 2019. In 2021, she was responsible for a diverse array of content, including the horror trilogy “Fear Street,” the Jane Campion drama “Power of the Dog” and director/star Halle Berry’s “Bruised.”
