Since investing $760 million in Legendary Entertainment in January 2022, Solomon and his Apollo partner, Aaron Sobel, have been aggressively investing in new TV and movie projects for the mini-major studio, best known for such tentpole features as “Dune” and “Godzilla vs. Kong,” as well as evaluating a number of M&A opportunities. They also placed a big bet in the telecommunications space, masterminding Apollo’s acquisition of Lumen Technologies’ assets to create broadband network provider Brightspeed, which plans to invest $2 billion over the next five years to build out its fiber optic network. Among other major deals for the duo are Apollo’s partnership with Roku on a joint bid for a minority stake in Starz and supporting the sale of Cox Media Group’s assets, including its ad-tech business Gamut and its national TV representation business, CoxReps, to One Equity Partners.
