Schmidt Hissrich has been a busy TV writer-producer for nearly two decades, working on high-profile series ranging from “The West Wing,” “Private Practice,” “Parenthood” and “Power” to Netflix superhero series “Daredevil,” “The Defenders” and “The Umbrella Academy.” But she didn’t garner much personal attention until the streamer tapped her to create a show based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s “The Witcher” literary universe (also a videogame franchise) — a job she initially turned down — which was viewed in 76 million households in the first four weeks following its December 2019 drop. The second season of the supernatural fantasy series, which stars Henry Cavill as a monster hunter, had to temporarily shut down its British shoot in March due to the pandemic, but production resumed in August and should wrap in early 2021.
